Join Champion Public Library for a special lecture at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 26th on Age Well: Advocating for Loved Ones in the Hospital & Beyond. Led by Erin Galyean, author, patient advocate and founder of The Empowered Advocate Community, will share practical communication strategies that help families feel more confident, connected and informed during medical appointments. Attendees will learn how to craft open-ended questions for better understanding, clarify subjective language with providers, maximize limited appointment time, strengthen communication through teamwork and preparation and understand how palliative care benefits patients and families throughout the journey, not just at the end of life. This Zoom lecture is free and open to adults and seniors; however, signing up is encouraged. This program is sponsored by Road Scholars.
Erin Galyean became a fierce advocate after her sister and father died from cancer. Drawing on 20-plus years in the pharmaceutical industry, Galyean wrote ‘Badass Advocate’ to help families navigate care with confidence. Galyean later founded The Empowered Advocate Community, a platform with step-by-step lessons and tools that teach families how to stay organized, communicate effectively, and make the cancer journey easier, empowering them to advocate for loved ones at every stage of serious illness.
This lecture is part of our “Age Well” series, designed to provide valuable insights, expert guidance, and practical tools for navigating the aging journey with confidence. These programs explore key topics related to aging, from health and wellness to planning for the future, offering meaningful perspectives and resources for older adults and caregivers alike. This online lecture will take place live over the course of 1-2 hours.
