August 31, 2026

Parker Memorial Library, in partnership with the Oklahoma School for the Deaf, is excited to announce a series of free basic American Sign Language (ASL) classes this September. The classes will be held every Saturday beginning September 5th at 11:00 AM, in honor of Deaf Awareness Month.

Led by Tara Simms, a renowned ASL Specialist, participants will learn essential ASL signs designed to foster and enhance communication among people of all ages, whether hearing, hard of hearing, or deaf. The initiative aims to promote inclusivity and bridge communication gaps within the community. The classes are open to all ages, and signing up is encouraged.

For more information, you can contact Parker Memorial Library at (580) 634-2315 or visit the library at 500 West Broadway in Sulphur. The Parker Memorial Library is a branch of the Southern Oklahoma Library System.
