Book Club – Wilson Public Library

October 28, 2025

Join friends at the Wilson Public Library for a monthly book club at 5:30 PM on Thursday, October 30th. Conversation, fellowship, and refreshments will be centered on popular book titles for adults to discuss. This month’s book selection is “The Only One Left” by Riley Sager.

At seventeen, Lenora Hope hanged her sister with a rope. Now a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders stunned Maine’s coast one bloody night in 1929. Most believe Lenora was guilty, but the police never proved it. After denying the charges, Lenora never spoke publicly nor left Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the murders occurred. The second verse repeats: stabbed her father with a knife, took her mother’s happy life. In 1983, home-health aide Kit McDeere arrives at crumbling Hope’s End to care for Lenora, whose previous nurse fled overnight. In her seventies, wheelchair-bound, mute from strokes, Lenora can communicate only by tapping on an old typewriter. One night, she makes a tempting offer—I want to tell you everything. “It wasn’t me,” Lenora said, but she’s the sole survivor. As Kit helps Lenora recount the massacre, it’s soon clear there’s more to the story. When new details surface about her predecessor’s abrupt departure, Kit suspects Lenora isn’t telling the whole truth—and that her patient might be far more dangerous than she appears.

Participants are encouraged to check out the book by visiting the Wilson Public Library at 1087 US Hwy. 70A in Wilson or call (580) 668-2486. The Wilson Public Library is a branch of the Southern Oklahoma Library System.
