Join others at the Love County Library for a monthly book club on Tuesday, March 25th at 6:00 PM. Conversation, fellowship, and refreshments will be centered on popular book titles for adults to discuss. This month’s book selection is “Demon Copperhead” by Barbara Kingsolver.
Set in the southern Appalachian Mountains, “Demon Copperhead” follows a boy born to a teenage single mother in a trailer. Equipped with his father’s good looks and a fierce survival instinct, Demon navigates the harsh realities of foster care, labor, and addiction. Through his unsparing voice, he confronts his invisibility in a society that overlooks rural people. Inspired by Charles Dickens’ “David Copperfield,” the novel reflects ongoing issues of poverty and childhood trauma. Barbara Kingsolver adapts this Victorian tale to the modern American South, channeling Dickens’ anger and compassion. “Demon Copperhead” gives voice to a new generation of lost boys trapped in beautiful, cursed places.
