In 1867 Richmond, Virginia, Arabella works at Worsham’s gambling parlor, distinguished by her beauty and resolve to escape her life of poverty. She catches the eye of Collis Huntington, a married railroad baron thirty years her senior, and they engage in a passionate affair. With his support, Arabella moves to New York posing as a wealthy widow and begins to build her own fortune through savvy investments. As she enters high society, navigating the elite circles of the Astors and Vanderbilts, she faces the demand for impeccable behavior and the threat of blackmail over her past. Complications arise when an unexpected romance challenges her ambitions and loyalties, set against the glamorous backdrop of a remarkable era. “An American Beauty” vividly captures a woman’s determination to redefine her future.
