Book Club – Wilson Public Library

May 26, 2026

Join friends at the Wilson Public Library for a monthly book club at 5:30 PM on Thursday, May 28. Conversation, fellowship, and refreshments will be centered on popular book titles for adults to discuss. This month’s book selection is “Junie” by Erin Eckstine. Books will be made available for participants starting Monday, May 4th.

Sixteen-year-old Junie has been enslaved her entire life on Bellereine Plantation in Alabama, where she cooks, cleans, and cares for Violet, the white master’s daughter. She escapes her harsh reality all while mourning the sudden death of her sister, Minnie. When wealthy visitors from New Orleans arrive with plans that could change Violet’s future—and disrupt Junie’s life—Junie makes a desperate decision that awakens Minnie’s spirit.

Seeking help for her sister’s trapped soul, Junie turns to Caleb, a coachman traveling with the guests. As they grow closer, Junie begins uncovering disturbing secrets hidden within Bellereine Plantation. With time running out to save Minnie, Junie must confront painful truths and challenge the system that has controlled her life, ultimately questioning what it truly costs to choose freedom and love.

The Summer Reading Program is also supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.

Participants are encouraged to check out the book by visiting the Wilson Public Library at 1087 US Hwy. 70A in Wilson or call (580) 668-2486. The Wilson Public Library is a branch of the Southern Oklahoma Library System.
