The Wilson Public Library is thrilled to offer Homeschool Hangout, an all-new, free weekly program thoughtfully crafted to support and inspire local homeschool families.
Beginning Wednesday, September 16th, Homeschool Hangout will take place every Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, providing a welcoming space for homeschoolers of all ages to learn, connect, and grow together.
Developed in collaboration with the local homeschool community and created in direct response to a recent community survey, Homeschool Hangout offers two alternating formats to meet a variety of learning and social needs. During led-activity weeks, participants will engage in hands-on experiences guided by librarians or guest activity leaders, with activities ranging from STEM challenges and history explorations to art projects and seasonal science. Registration is requested for these sessions to ensure ample materials, families can sign up at the library or by phone.
On alternate weeks, the program transforms into an open hangout, where no registration is needed. Families are invited to drop in for board games, group projects, and unstructured social time, fostering friendships among students and connections among parents.
Homeschool Hangout is designed for flexibility and inclusivity: all ages are welcome, siblings can participate together, and families may attend as often as their schedules permit, whether it’s weekly, biweekly, or monthly. The program underscores the Wilson Public Library’s ongoing commitment to serving every learner in the rural Wilson and Carter County communities by providing access to enrichment activities, library resources, and a consistent gathering place.
