Book Club – Love County Library

January 7, 2025

Join others at the Love County Library for a monthly book club on Tuesday, January 28th at 6:00 PM. Conversation, fellowship, and refreshments will be centered on popular book titles for adults to discuss. This month’s book selection is “Frozen River” by Ariel Lawhon.

In 1789 Maine, midwife Martha Ballard is called to investigate the frozen body of a man found in the Kennebec River. Her diary chronicles the births and deaths in Hallowell, including an earlier incident of alleged assault involving respected townsmen, one of whom is now dead. When a local physician dismisses her findings and labels the death an accident, Martha takes it upon herself to uncover the truth. As the trial approaches and tensions rise, her diary becomes central to the scandal, forcing her to confront her loyalties and the community’s secrets.
