What happens in the brain during spiritual or religious practices and how might those changes matter as we age? Join Champion Public Library for a special lecture at 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 23rd as neuroscientist Dr. Andrew B. Newberg explores the growing body of research linking spirituality, religion and brain function. Drawing on brain imaging and clinical studies, Dr. Newberg examines how practices such as meditation, prayer and contemplation affect areas of the brain involved in emotion, self-awareness and cognition. The lecture will also consider the potential implications of these findings for health, emotional regulation and overall well-being later in life. This event is free and open to adults, ages 18 and up; however, signing up is encouraged. This Zoom lecture event is sponsored by Road Scholar.
Andrew B. Newberg, M.D. is currently the research director at the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health and a professor in the Department of Integrative Medicine & Nutritional Sciences, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University & Hospital.
