Join others at the Champion Public Library for a monthly book club on Thursday, July 2nd at 5:30 PM. Conversation, fellowship, and refreshments will be centered on popular book titles for adults to discuss. This month’s book selection is “The Greatest Sentence Ever Written” by Walter Isaacson to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary.
Walter Isaacson marks America’s 250th anniversary by exploring the creation and meaning of the Declaration of Independence’s iconic line: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” He reveals how Jefferson, Franklin, and Adams crafted these words to define the American Dream and unite the nation. Isaacson examines each phrase’s radical ideas, showing how their message of unity and equality remains relevant—and how it can inspire us to rediscover our shared values today.
