Honoring D-Day: Echoes of Valor & Victory Lecture – Champion Public Library

June 9, 2026

Join Champion Public Library at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10th for our next online lecture to celebrate America’s 250th Birthday with “Honoring D-Day — Echoes of Valor & Victory”.

On June 6, 1944, the Allies undertook one of the most bold and significant operations of World War II — a massive amphibious and airborne assault in Normandy, marking the beginning of the end for Nazi oppression in Europe. Join us to honor this monumental day with an inspiring online lecture by Dr. Spencer Jones, esteemed historian and author. The first 24 hours of Operation Overlord, codenamed “D-Day,” saw a united effort of American, British and Canadian forces to overcome Hitler’s formidable ‘Atlantic Wall’ and secure essential beachheads. Dr. Jones will unveil the strategic brilliance and steadfast bravery that marked this pivotal moment, propelling the Allies towards the liberation of Europe. This event is free and open to adults, ages 18 and up; however, signing up is encouraged. This Zoom lecture event is sponsored by Road Scholar.

Dr. Spencer Jones is an award-winning historian with a special interest in the First and Second World Wars and the life of Sir Winston Churchill. Jones is a senior lecturer in armed forces and war studies at the University of Wolverhampton and serves in the British Army as the regimental historian of the Royal Artillery. Jones most recent publication is “The Armchair General World War One: Can You Win the Great War?”
