Join friends at the Healdton Community Library for their book club at 5:30 PM on Monday, January 19th. Conversation, fellowship, and refreshments will be centered on popular book titles for adults to discuss. This month’s book, “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah will be discussed.
France, 1939 – In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he leaves for the war. She does not think the Nazis will come to France, but they do, arriving with marching soldiers, trucks, tanks, and planes that fill the sky and drop bombs on innocent people. When a German captain takes over Vianne’s home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. With no food, money, or hope, and as danger grows around them, she must make one hard choice after another to keep her family safe. Vianne’s sister, Isabelle, is a rebellious eighteen-year-old, looking for meaning with all the wild energy of youth. While thousands of people in Paris face the unknown dangers of war, she meets Gäetan, a fighter who believes the French can fight the Nazis from inside France, and she falls in love as only young people can, fully and deeply. But when he lets her down, Isabelle joins the Resistance and never turns back, risking her life again to help others.
Participants are encouraged to check out the book by visiting the Healdton Community Library at 554 South 4th Street in Healdton or call (580) 229-0590. The Healdton Community Library is a branch of the Southern Oklahoma Library System.
