Chickens and Dinosaurs – Love County Library

July 16, 2026

The Love County Library is excited to announce a unique and educational event for children and families this summer. For three weeks, the library will be incubating live chicks onsite, providing a rare opportunity for visitors to witness the hatching process up close.

The chicks are expected to hatch on Tuesday, July 21st, coinciding with a special program at 3:00 PM. This engaging session, led by Lauren Minyard from the OSU Extension Office, will educate children of all ages about chickens and their fascinating connection as the closest living relatives to dinosaurs. Attendees will learn about the science of incubation, the development of chicks, and the evolutionary ties between birds and prehistoric creatures.

Space is limited, and advance sign-up is required. To reserve a spot for your child, please call the Love County Library.

Don’t miss this egg-citing opportunity to experience nature and science in action!

The Summer Reading Program is also supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.
